A Sunday with a difference,

I got up at 5.25, had a quick shower and walked to the Lodge, my plan was to join a safari drive. I saw 5 elephants in camp. When I arrived at the Lodge I was told that I was unable to go on the drive .... I had misunderstood a message a night guard had given me the night before.
Josarfart, the head Guide soon arrived an announced, to follow him if we wanted to see a sleeping elephant. I, an a handful of guests followed him to behind the kitchen. 3 adult elephants were standing and eating and one baby was curled up asleep on the ground.
Just how cute was that !!!

The guests left for a drive and I stayed and had coffee and chat with some of the staff.
I then TRIED to walk home. The two walk ways and the road were blocked by elephant. I finally got a guard and was taken on a rout in front of the chalets to my home.

At home I heard the now familiar sounds of elephant grassing.
I watched one that was very close, got out my camera and tentatively opened my door to take a photo. To my surprise now I could see 4 more elephant at VERY close quarters.

They grassed on the trees in front of my house and slowly walked past. I took a few photos and a video. One stopped directly apposite my open door (where I was standing) he turned his back to me, spread his legs and proceeded to defecate and urinate.

The photos on this page were taken from my front door.

I call Sundays "Egg Sunday" because all the staff get a cooked breakfast at 8.00, half an hour later than on week days. Today we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast as we swapped our morning "elephant encounters". There had been a large heard of elephant in the camp all night and morning.

The day progressed with a trip to the airport and a chat with Ian the Bush Camp manager.
Before the evening meal I had a hot tub. I sat in the tub, watching 8 Giraffe wander past, flocks of birds flying home to roost, baboons playing and puku grassing. As the sun went down the Vervet monkeys played very close to my pool. This was followed by a candle lit meal.

Will Rosebud ever be like this?
