Cheeky Monkeys.

12/5/08
Luke and I were playing after Lunch in the lounge dining room of his home. A Vervet Monkey jumped on the window and tried to get in. We threw a pillow at it, and frightened it away.

Later as we were engrossed in our game, I looked up and a monkey was on the dinning table!!!! We shooed it away, it took an apple and went in to the main bedroom. I opened the door and we waited until it came down the hall and watched as it left via the front door.
Two apples had be taken, and the left over lunch. Out side the window were 10 or more monkeys, one was eating an apple (that must have been taken from the table). The troop were getting ready to come in for their share.

Every day lunch is brought to the family in their home, they then returns to work or school, leaving the leftovers on the table to be collected by the kitchen staff a half an hour or so latter.
Tyson, the gardener, later told me that Monkeys and Baboons, regularly visit the dinning table to finish up the food, they have learnt about the opportunity.

The funniest thing about this story is that people at the camp were amused by my reaction, rather than the story. They accept it as a fact of life. They told me "better" stories of how Monkeys and Baboons had stolen food.
So I have a lot to learn .... but I do think that food scrapes could be put in a food bin .... problem is I am not yet an African.
