Nkwali Lodge stay

At 11.00 Sat morning I got a message that there was a spare bed at Nkwali Lodge for me, sharing with Cathy, a friend from Flatedogs. We were given the "Family room" which has two large bed rooms and two bathrooms.
Nkwali, is the next lodge along from Kafunta, and is situated on the river. The view from my bed was fantastic. I spent time reading and checking out the animals coming down to drink.
Puku, Giraffe, Impala, Warthog and babies came down to drink at the river early in the morning.

The camp had 7-9 Americans in camp. Kafunta does not get many American guests, so it was interesting to catch up on "The Election". I have found 3 updates and talks about the elections in 3 months has been adequate.
The two night drives were not spectacular. On both it rained, (very out of season) on the second I got soaked to the skin. Our sightings in included a leopard and a pride of lions.

Food was a welcome change, e.g.
crisp hot toast, toasted over coals to order and home made muesli. What a delight.

The highlight was the billabong they have in camp. We sat in the open, having lunch while elephants and other animals came to drink. The baby apposite first entertained us during lunch and then took a nap.
On my way back on Monday morning I saw a herd with more elephants laying down sleeping.

A very pleasant an unexpected weekend.
