June - July -------Winter in Zambia.

The nights have been cool and the days warm. We got down to 10 degrees in the early hours of one morning. The locals thought it was so cold that they talked about it for a week.
The scenery is changing as the trees drop their leaves. Vegetation is browning and not looking very lush. It is now easier to see animals in the undergrowth.
There have been lots of coming and goings at the Lodge. Ron, Luke's dad was away for 3 weeks. Hanni, my neighbor went to Germany for a week for a job interview. Anke, Luke's mum, was away for a few days. Ian, the new Bush Camp Manager arrived. Mario, a fantastic young German, who was working here, left to return to study. Relatives of Ron and Anke visited with their 8 year old son for three weeks. School time was reduced. The "school" and the family have been on a holidays together. The Lodge has been fill to overflowing with guests, and Elephants.

Highlights of the month have included :-
- a wonderful long weekend away in Lower Zambezi with Hanni at a beautiful lodge. Canoeing, boating and game viewing, on the river was fantastic. See the pictures
- a 3 day trip to Luambe A few photos
- a visit by Darwin Dave, he is the guy that put me in touch with this job.
- me getting my hair plaited. Two hours work by the hairdresser cost the equivalent of $3US.
- a game drive where I saw 5 Leopard in one night.
- 3 days at the Bush Camp

News of crocodiles eating two thieves, and an elephant killing a villager have highlighted the harsh life in Africa. I am told that elephants kill 2 - 3 people a year in the village.
